Spreading festive cheer with advent calendars for Colchester Foodbank
STAFF at Colchester-based ThinkBDW are spreading some Christmas cheer again this year with a collection of advent calendars for the town’s Foodbank.
It is the second year that Finance Manager Christine Wilmin has organised the appeal which has resulted in more than 100 calendars for Colchester Foodbank which provides emergency food for local families and individuals in crisis.
“It’s just a small thing for people to donate but having an advent calendar to open every day in the run up to Christmas means a lot to children,” said Christine, mum to 3-year-old Jack.
“Colchester Foodbank helps families who are having trouble putting food on the table for themselves and their families. Many of these people will have children who would not be getting an advent calendar this year – something most of our children take for granted.”
Christine, who works at ThinkBDW’s head office at Wyncolls Road, Colchester, said donations of calendars had been coming in from work colleagues, friends and neighbours as well as people from her gym, LW Fitness4all. The total has already reached 100 this year and she is hoping for a few more last-minute donations.
Staff at ThinkBDW also collected Easter eggs for the Foodbank and regularly take part in charity fundraisers including Red Nose Day and Macmillan coffee mornings. Christine is enthusiastic about fundraising and fitness and has recently taken part in Colchester Half Marathon and the Paras 10 endurance race. Her next challenge is an Ultra White Collar Boxing fight for Cancer Research on December 6th.
